The Sound Bite Life of Mike To the right: Cambridge, Ohio, circa 1959, young Terry is pictured with the radio station he built in his bedroom. Its tiny signal would travel several miles, and for this high school "science project" he was busted by the local radio station engineer with threats of the standard FCC fine of "$10,000 and 20 years in prison." RADIO. Here is the one photograph that best describes the life of Mike. Mike thinks this innocent setting predicted a life long fixation on Radio. Little did Ruth and Karl Hackney of Newark, Ohio realize in 1943 that their son Terry would be influenced by Radio. In this photo, Terry's first radio, a 1930 Philco. It changed his life. |

The Hackneys of Newark, Ohio remain somewhat of a mystery. I have attempted to find out family origins through historical and geneology groups, but the answer is always: "You have to go to Newark and spend some time searching." Someday I will. This photo, from the 1950s, depicts young Terry/Mike's interest in photography. Terry, pictured second from right holds a Brownie 620. Terry certainly inherited his photo interest from his father.
